Introduction

A Brief School History
The Brothers of the Christian Schools, commonly called the De La Salle Brothers, were founded by St. John Baptist De La Salle in 1680 in France. St. La Salle is the Patron of Teachers.

In 1928, Brother Aimar bought 10 acres of land in Boundary Street which constituted the property of La Salle College. On 5th November 1930, Sir William Peel, then Governor of Hong Kong, laid the foundation stone of the school. The College opened its doors to its first students in December 1931 and got into full swing in 1932.

During World War II (1939-45) the school buildings were requisitioned as an internment camp by the British Government and later as a hospital by the Japanese. After the war, the British Government once again requisitioned the College which then had to operate from temporary buildings in Perth Street, Homantin. On 1st August 1959, the College was handed back to the Brothers.

Between July 1977 to May 1979, the old building was knocked down to make way for a new well endowed school. The Track and Field was completed in October 1981. The new school was officially opened by Sir Murray MacLehose, the Governor at the time, on 19th February 1982.

Under the School Improvement Programme (SIP), two new wings were constructed. They were connected by a link bridge overlooking the Swimming Pool. They were open for use in September 2005. On 15th December 2006, the new building was officially opened by The Honourable Professor Arthur Li, Secretary of Education and Manpower.
